Why Musical Foundation Matters

Understanding Music Changes Everything

Whether you’re learning your first chords or refining your writing process, strong fundamentals allow creativity to grow with clarity and confidence. Hannah’s teaching blends theory, technique, and creative exploration so students truly understand the music they’re making.

Piano Lessons

Pianists trained solely on sheet music often struggle with improvisational and chord-based playing, finding it difficult to adapt in band settings due to their reliance on notation. Conversely, pianists who play only by ear may struggle with collaboration and communication in group settings. A balanced skill set is crucial, as a lack of either improvisational ability or reading proficiency hinders creative expression and efficiency.

Hannah’s teaching style blends the best of both worlds by integrating classical training and music theory with contemporary composition and creative improvisation. This holistic approach fosters well-rounded pianists whether they are playing solo or in a band.

Music Education for Children

We usually welcome students as young as 5 years old, but focus more on readiness rather than strict age rules. Instead of early specialization in one area, we can nurture a child’s innate and overall musicality through varied, creative, and skill-based learning. Building this initial musical literacy prepares them to cultivate a deeper, more concentrated interest over time.

Structure & Routine

We collaborate with parents to create short, daily practice habits that help children integrate music into their lives. Providing a predictable and reliable environment fosters emotional regulation, which enhances knowledge retention and makes learning more effective & enjoyable.

Songwriting & Creativity

Students are encouraged and guided on how to compose their own melodies, write lyrics, and use the piano to create simple accompaniments.

Piano & Theory

We teach our young students how to identify notes on the piano, practice aural skills, recognize intervals, play scales, how to use dynamics, develop rhythm & timing, & implement basic music terminology.

Vocal Technique

We help our young students discover their voices by introducing them to basic singing techniques like ear training and singing with accompaniment. We provide a foundation for healthy singing with tailored advancement for those prepared for the next level.

Voice Lessons

Our associate teacher, Hannah Medina, is now accepting voice students, following an initial vocal consultation with our lead instructor, Theresa Black. Hannah has worked alongside her mother, Theresa, to adopt her proven teaching methods and expertise in voice training. Hannah not only excels at teaching the technique needed to deliver a lead vocal but is also a master of harmonies, so if you are looking to refine your harmony skills, Hannah is the ideal instructor.
